That’s the idea behind CanRoots, a gathering of activists and organizers inspired by the New Organizing Institute’s annual RootsCamp. This weekend, NOW is proud to sponsor CanRoots East in Toronto—and if you’re in the neighbourhood, we’d love for you to join us.
If past experience is any indication, it’ll be a great event. Last May’s CanRoots event in Vancouver brought together some terrific presenters and participants. And a few of the NOWsters in attendance were so jazzed by the energy of the opening day that they volunteered and delivered a session on persuasive communications as part of the crowd-sourced portion of the agenda. That rounded out a packed weekend of ideas and stories that ranged from the $10/day child care campaign to hearing the first-hand account of how a few grandmothers from the small town of Kitimat out-organized Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines.
And this weekend’s agenda is every bit as exciting. Stories from the Vancouver, Toronto and U.S. elections; movement-building and distributed organizing; list-building and data-driven targeting… and three crowd-sourced sessions (ahem! maybe you have a workshop to contribute?).
Part of NOW’s mission is to strengthen progressive Canada’s communications capacity; CanRoots aims to do the same for activism and organizing. We’re looking forward to hearing your stories and ideas this weekend—and to sharing a few of our own. See you there!
